Release Date: January 26, 2021

From Goodreads:
DEFIANCE IS TREASON. TREASON IS DEATH.

A siege is laid against the last resistance to the Senate’s rule. As the battle rages, a commander, a soldier, and a rebel will decide how far they are willing to go for victory.

THE COMMANDER

Marcus is forced to choose between destroying the rebel forces and liberating his legion. He must face the true cost of being a leader. And an oppressor.

THE SOLDIER

Agrippa sets his sights on glory to fill the deepening void within him. He discovers that the price of fame might not just be paid in blood, it might be paid by his heart.

THE REBEL

Silvara joins the rebel forces to fight against the legions who would see her family dead. While she dreams of being a warrior, she finds her sharpest weapon is seduction. But to defeat the Empire, she’ll have to betray the young man who now has her heart.

Inspired by the harsh world of ancient Rome, readers are obsessed with this martial tale of fiery romance, friendship, and enmity. Told from three points of view, TARNISHED EMPIRE is filled with twists you’ll never see coming but will keep you turning the pages all night.

TARNISHED EMPIRE is set in the world of Danielle L. Jensen’s DARK SHORES. But readers new to the world can begin here.

MIND EFFIN' BLOWN

This book was SO. GOOD. I read it in one sitting, and short of the world ending, nothing could have pried me away from it.

Danielle Jensen definitely delivered. The first time I saw this book (MARCUS!!), I was already half obsessed. But after reading it? It was nothing short of AMAZING, and I honestly just want to read it again.

The best part about Tarnished Empire? (And I think no one would be surprised by now.) Marcus. Gorgeous, loyal, unwavering and remarkable of a man. He will show just how brilliant of a mind he has and how indomitable of a leader he is. No wonder he became the famed Legatus of the Thirty Seventh Legion. (Whew, that's a mouthful.) I LOVE him. Which, again, isn't surprising. I would read a thousand page book on Marcus if I can.

It was an absolute delight reading this book. I love seeing those I have come to know and love from Dark Shores. Felix, Amarin, Quintus, and Miki were a sight for sore eyes! Tarnished Empire also introduced us to a lot of new characters. Some of them you can't help but adore. And some you just want to run through with a sword. Agnes was a gem. Yaro has my heart. Hostus was... terribly horrible. Carina, I feel like we haven't seen the last of her yet. And Agrippa? Agrippa reminded me a lot of Puck (The Iron Fey series). As funny as he is deadly, Agrippa is so much more than what he lets on. And let me just say, the bromance with Marcus is EVERYTHING. Give me more of that bromance. I NEED it.

With an addictive plot and Danielle Jensen's signature writing style, Tarnished Empire is filled with humor, swoony romance and nonstop action. I cannot recommend this enough!

P.S. I should tell you I went into this book after reading Dark Shores and Dark Skies and right before I dove into Gilded Serpent. There was definitely a lot of WTF and holy sh*t moments. I think reading this prequel before going into Gilded Serpent made the experience all the more exciting and made me more invested in the story.

I received an e-ARC to read and review.
