About the book:
A RUNAWAY WITH A HIDDEN PAST
Lydia is a scholar, but books are her downfall when she meddles in the plots of the most powerful man in the Celendor Empire. Her life in danger, she flees west to the far side of the Endless Seas and finds herself entangled in a foreign war where her burgeoning powers are sought by both sides.
A COMMANDER IN DISGRACE
Killian is Marked by the God of War, but his gifts fail him when the realm under the dominion of the Corrupter invades Mudamora. Disgraced, he swears his sword to the kingdom’s only hope: the crown princess. But the choice sees him caught up in a web of political intrigue that will put his oath – and his heart – to the test.
A KINGDOM UNDER SIEGE With Mudamora falling beneath the armies of the Corrupter, Lydia and Killian strike a bargain to save those they love most—but it is a bargain with unintended and disastrous consequences. Truths are revealed, birthrights claimed, and loyalties questioned—all while a menace deadlier and more far-reaching than they realize sweeps across the world.
Rating: 4 of 5 stars
I think that's it. That's the entirety of my review. I honestly can't come up with anything more to say.
Okay, I'll try.
Dark Skies was everything I didn't expect. I've read Dark Shores and LOVED it. I went into this one thinking it could not possibly be better than its predecessor. But boy, was I wrong. So. Effin. Wrong.
I don't know what to tell you but Dark Skies was filled to the brim with action and excitement and gore and blood and political maneuvers and cunning characters and unexpected turns. There was so much brilliance in this book I could not keep up. I love that it was lengthy. I love that I didn't know who to trust or root for. I love that it was so freakin' addictive. I love its complexity. I love its barely there but I'm-fully-invested-in-it romance. I love Lydia and her bravery and loyalty and innate strength. I love Killian and his reckless determination to protect those he cares about. Jury's still out with Lena and Gwen. (Hopefully, the third book will rectify this.) I love Danielle Jensen for her brilliance.
For all the fans of Dark Shores (like I am), this is definitely not to be missed. For those who have yet to read the books, trust me, you're looking at your next obsession.
“Time itself doesn’t change people, Highness. What happens to them while it passes does.”
“My gut tells me that won’t be a problem.”
“Most men use their minds to make decisions, but you follow the advice of your innards?”
“In another life, I’d get down on my knees and beg you to come back. Might beg you not to go in the first place.”
I received an e-arc to read and review.
