About the book:
Miri dela Merced’s film director grandfather and Pabs Paglinauan’s studio head grandmother had a huge falling out that ended Lolo Ikong’s career. At seventeen, Miri finds herself in the same summer film internship program as the down-to-earth film studio heir Pabs, whom she’s decided to automatically write off, just because of his lineage. As Miri gets a crash course in her expectations vs the reality of what it's like to work on a real movie, her true feelings for Pabs become harder and harder to ignore. In between attending outdoor screenings of classic Pinoy movies and battling monster production assistants together, can flipping the script on a decades-old grudge be only a few sequences away?

MEET MIRI AND PABS..

So now what? Are we a thing? Do I want us to be a thing? Would it be so wrong if I say that I do? What do I do with these feelings, exactly?

It was definitely more simple when we weren’t friends. It was easier hating Pabs, but I must admit that falling for him is a lot more interesting.

Hi Danice! Thanks so much for being here today! I am so excited to read Flipping the Script! That cover! The blurb! I already love everything about it!

Anyway, I think I've wasted enough of everyone's time already, lol. So.. let's get started with the interview! =)

i. The book
Can you tell us something about Flipping the Script?

“Flipping The Script” is my first book, and I wrote it for a younger audience. It was completed in 2017 under the #romanceclassYA workshop held that year.

* *
What was your inspiration in writing it?

The writers who were interested in signing up for #romanceclassYA were presented a challenge: to incorporate a Filipino element that we haven’t yet seen done in a YA book. I wanted to see more artists/storytellers and filmmakers in YA so I thought about a romance between two young filmmakers-to-be.

* *
Who is/are your Flipping the Script favorite character/s to write? Why?

Hehehe, my favorite characters to write were actually the interns Eboy and Aldrin, who become part of Miri’s friend group for the summer. I had the most fun writing those two because of their kakulitan.

* *
Who do you see yourself in more? Miri or Pabs? Why?

Miri, I think. I can be stubborn about people the same way she is.

* *
What would you want your readers to take away from the book?

I would love my readers to enjoy the story, and also to learn a few things about Philippine cinema, such as some titles I’d love for readers who aren’t familiar with Pinoy cinema to know about. Check those out! ^^

ii. The author
Describe your perfect holiday.

My perfect holiday would be one where I wake up in a fancy hotel and I get to sleep, eat, read, and basically veg out the whole time. That would be perfection.

* *
People's usual first impression of you?

People generally think I’m younger than my actual age.

* *
Books on your nightstand?

Literally these books :)

* *
What do you do when you're not writing?

It’s terrible, but I’m constantly on Twitter. I’m always plugged in.

* *
What's the one book you wish you'd written?

I'll give you two ^^ “Carry On” by Rainbow Rowell and “Kill The Boyband” by Goldy Moldavsky. The former because I’d love to write something super fannish that alludes directly to the fandom while being totally original, and the latter because I love stories about the shenanigans that come from chasing around pop groups.

* *
Any advice for aspiring writers?

Write what feels good to you, and try not to beat yourself up if you don’t meet your own expectations sometimes. It’s okay.

* *
Aaannd that's it! Again, thanks so much to author Danice Mae P. Sison for answering these questions! Hope you had a fun time! =)

Thank you for the questions, Diana! Hope you enjoyed FTS! :)
