BY YOUR SIDE

From Goodreads:
An irresistible story from Kasie West that explores the timeless question: What do you do when you fall for the person you least expect?

When Autumn Collins finds herself accidentally locked in the library for an entire weekend, she doesn't think things could get any worse. But that's before she realizes that Dax Miller is locked in with her.

Autumn doesn't know much about Dax except that he's trouble. Between the rumors about the fight he was in (and that brief stint in juvie that followed it) and his reputation as a loner, he's not exactly the ideal person to be stuck with. Still, she just keeps reminding herself that it is only a matter of time before Jeff, her almost-boyfriend, realizes he left her in the library and comes to rescue her.

Only he doesn't come. No one does.

Instead it becomes clear that Autumn is going to have to spend the next couple of days living off vending-machine food and making conversation with a boy who clearly wants nothing to do with her. Except there is more to Dax than meets the eye.

As he and Autumn at first grudgingly, and then not so grudgingly, open up to each other, Autumn is struck by their surprising connection. But can their feelings for each other survive once the weekend is over and Autumn's old life, and old love interest, threaten to pull her from Dax's side?

Rating: 4 of 5 stars

Well first of all I don't think one could ever go wrong with a Kasie West novel. This is her seventh book and I am so freakin' glad to say that, just like with all the other six, I am so in love with this adorable, swoony and heartwarming book. Because let's face it getting trapped in a library is probably one fantasy every book lover has dreamed of.. right? Maybe? Probably not? Still wouldn't change the fact that BOOKS = BLISS.

I have always adored Kasie West's writing. She just has this way of drawing readers in and making it impossible to not love her characters. Autumn had my heart from the start. I may not know exactly what she's going through but I do get how hard it can be. She has anxiety issues and gets panic attacks but none of her friends know about it. I get why she chose not to tell them. And that made her all the more real to me. She's flawed. She's far from perfect. But she won't let this one thing define who she is and control her life. She's funny, loyal and kind. She maybe a little awkward at times but hey who isn't? I just found it a bit disappointing that she wasn't much of a reader. I know, I know. That should hardly matter. But there were all those books just sitting there within her reach and I just... it's... Please don't shoot me.

I love this book to pieces. I love Autumn's relationship with her brother, the strong-bonded friendships portrayed, the cute, sweet romance, and the author's take on anxiety disorder. I admit this book is heavier and deals with more serious topics than the author's previous books. But Kasie West handled it like a pro and still made the book such an enjoyable, swoony read while educating her readers at the same time. I don't think very many authors can do that.

I received an e-arc via Edelweiss+ in exchange for an honest review.
