Book Review: Second Chance Summer

Taylor Edwards’ family might not be the closest-knit—everyone is a little too busy and overscheduled—but for the most part, they get along just fine. Then Taylor’s dad gets devastating news, and her parents decide that the family will spend one last summer all together at their old lake house in the Pocono Mountains.

Crammed into a place much smaller and more rustic than they are used to, they begin to get to know each other again. And Taylor discovers that the people she thought she had left behind haven’t actually gone anywhere. Second Chance Summer is a captivating and an inspirational novel about Life, Love and Family. This is the first novel of Ms. Matson that I read, and I'm so glad that I did.

Second Chance Summer is bubbling with so much emotion that is both heartbreaking and uplifting. It is told with such honesty and raw emotion that will capture your heart and put you to tears. I honestly shed a few tears myself especially on the last pages of the book (and that's saying a lot considering I'm not much of a "crying person" and I avoid it at all cost). The novel was realistic and very relateable. But what made this book stand out the most [to me], is Taylor and her dad's relationship. It was very heartwarming and I can totally relate since I'm also more of a "father's daughter". I always feel touched whenever they have their bonding moments - the breakfasts, the ice-cream-and-not-telling-your-mom-part, the jokes. (I guess you'll get what I'm saying better when you start reading the book). But in the meantime, I'll tell you this - this book is a definite must-read but expect to shed a few tears along the way.
