Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a walled-in city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten. Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred ofthem—the vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself dies and becomes one of the monsters.
Forced to flee her city, Allie must pass for human as she joins a ragged group of pilgrims seeking a legend—a place that might have a cure for the disease that killed off most of civilization and created the rabids, the bloodthirsty creatures who threaten human and vampire alike. And soon Allie will have to decide what and who is worth dying for again.
Enter Julie Kagawa's dark and twisted world as an unforgettable journey begins.
The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
If there was one thing I hate the most when I read a book – especially a good one – it’s that it has to end no matter how much I want it not to end (and that sucks big time). And reading The Immortal Rules undoubtedly left me craving for more. I was dying to get my hands on the next book the instant that last page was turned! And with that torturous ending, if I could just personally see and talk to Ms. Julie, I would and tell her to get on with the next book already (and maybe come up with some idea and force her to just in case she refuses *evil laugh*). Yep, The Immortal Rules was that good.
I’d say this book is a far cry from the Iron Fey series. Although I love both of ‘em, I think The Immortal Rules surpasses Iron Fey in the action and thrill category.
This is one heck of a book. Saying that it was very good doesn’t begin to cover it. It has so much going on in it, filled with so much excitement and intensity that will keep you gripping the edge of your seats. And just the right amount of drama, humor and a grilling-hot romance that makes it all the more superb. Not to mention, Ms. Kagawa introduced a new set of characters that are all equally intriguing and alluring. The book’s heroine, Allie Sakemoto is tough, determined, girl-who-can-kick-your-ass with just the right amount of snarkiness (is there such a word?) in her. After an incident that leaves her with only two options – to die or become a vampire – and ends up choosing the latter, Allie is now a monster she once gravely despised before becoming one. And becoming a vampire proves to be a lot more troublesome and dangerous than what she expected. Even more so when she finds herself teaming up with a group of humans. Especially when she finds herself drawn to charming, sweet, brave, selfless, gorgeous, who always sees the good in others, Zeke. Oh, Zeke… *sigh*
The Immortal Rules is set in a world where vampires rule and humans succumb to them without questioning to being the walking bloodbags. Where humans die of starvation and every man is for himself.
It is a hauntingly captivating book. Ms. Kagawa has once again enticed us to a whole new world of vampires where dark, hideous creatures lurk in the dark and the only thing to do is to survive. This is one book you wouldn’t want to miss!
