EVERY WRONG REASON
by Rachel Higginson
Publisher: Reckless Siren Publishing
Publication Date: September 22, 2015

First comes love. Then comes marriage. Then comes the... really nasty divorce.

Kate Carter thought she married her soul mate. She thought she had her happily ever after. But seven years into Kate's marriage, she realizes that her husband Nick is not what she wanted. He's selfish, he's oblivious and he doesn't love her anymore. Maybe she doesn't love him anymore either. Divorce is the only option if either of them wants to find happiness.

Kate and Nick thought they knew what they wanted, but neither is prepared for the heartache that separating will bring them. The journey they embark on is not the freedom they wished for, but a painful look at the people they've become.

At the end of it, Kate has to decide if this is really the life she wants or if maybe there's a way to salvage her broken heart.

BOOK REVIEW:
Rating: 4.5 of 5 stars

I am Rachel Higginson’s BIGGEST fan.
After I read Reckless Magic years ago I’ve never stopped loving Rachel’s books. From Kiran and Eden to the Parkers to Ben and Liz and now this. I. Am. In. Awe.

Every Wrong Reason is an AMAZING book. I don’t know how to do this book justice but I’m going to start by saying that this is probably my new favorite book by the author. (Sorry Hendrix, Reagan and gang!)

From beginning to end, I was fully wrapped up with the story. I have never met two people more frustrating and lovable than Kate and Nick. They argue about everything! From the most mundane things like pizza toppings and wet bathroom floors to the bigger issues like money and family. A lot of times I just wanted to kick both of them really hard because I’m just so tired of them going from sweet and hot to a screaming wreck in point five seconds. But I couldn’t possibly do that so I settled with reading the book way past midnight so I could finish it and see if the ending is what I’m hoping for. (It is.)

Kate is a very emotional character. She cries at the smallest things. She couldn’t go grocery shopping without turning into a crying mess. But I think this is what I love most about her. She wears her heart on her sleeve and she’s not afraid to show vulnerability. She’s compassionate with a really big heart. I found it adorable how attached she is to her dog. I have never met a person who cares more for his/her dog like Kate does. And what she did for Jay? That was admirable.

But as much as I love Kate, I am ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE with Nick. It didn’t start out that way though. I don’t exactly know why but I wasn’t Nick’s biggest fan at the start. But then I read further and gradually I fell head over heels for him. And I think the moment that I knew for sure that I love him was with that scene in the grocery store. I LOVE that part! It’s amazing how people are reminded of just how great it is to love someone and be with them when you know you’re on the verge of losing them. I can’t say anymore because I would hate to spoil anyone but seriously... this... Nick... he’s... *sigh* How I wish the book was told in dual povs. I think I would have loved being in his head and been privy to his thoughts and feelings.

The journey that Kate and Nick went through left me speechless. They’re both imperfect, broken and flawed. They feel so real.

I didn’t think this book would affect me as much as it did. But holy moly, I LOVE every second of it.

With great writing, well-rounded characters and engrossing storytelling, Rachel Higginson nailed it with Every Wrong Reason. It’s a perfect portrayal of the beauty, the ugliness, the flaws and the magic of marriage.

And I think I have to come up with a new word so I don’t sound like a robot but I LOVE Every Wrong Reason. There are a thousand right reasons why this book is a must-read so yes I highly recommend it!

I received an e-arc to read and review.

Elizabeth Carlson is living in the pits of hell- also known as grief. Her husband of eight years, the father of her four children and the love of her life, died from cancer. Grady’s prognosis was grim, even from the start, but Liz never gave up hope he would survive. How could she, when he was everything to her?

Six months later, she is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life and get the kids to school on time. Both seem impossible. Everything seems impossible these days. When Ben Tyler moves in next door, she is drowning in sorrow and pain, her children are acting out, and the house is falling apart. She has no time for curious new friends or unwanted help, but Ben gives her both. And he doesn’t just want to help her with yard work or cleaning the gutters. Ben wants more from Liz. More than she’s capable of ever giving again.

As Liz mourns her dead husband and works her way through the five stages of grief, she finds there’s more of her heart to give than she thought possible. And as new love takes hold, she peels away the guilt and heartache, and discovers there’s more to life than death.
