Review: Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy (Gallagher Girls 2)

Cammie Morgan is back, and it's clear that her life hasn't calmed down since the events of I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You. At first, giddy anticipation is in the air. Gallagher Academy, Cammie's elite spy school, is hosting a visit from a covert training center for boys.

Soon after the boys' arrival, though, everything goes dangerously awry when a series of security breaches are discovered at the academy. Worse yet, teenage agent-in-training Cammie is being blamed for the penetration. With the school's top-secret status at risk, the Gallagher Girls have to work quickly to save their beloved school.

Can I just say I LOVE this waay better than the first one?

In the second book of the series, Gallagher Academy will welcome its new, nonpermanent residents – Blackthorne boys, and although the Gallagher girls are highly trained in combat and ace on covert operations training, they know zilch about boys.
I love how the funny, adventurous factor I loved in the first book wasn’t lost and that the mischief, romance and intrigue were strengthened in this one. It was a light, fun read that I greatly enjoyed.

Cammie, Liz, Bex and Macey are as unpredictable as ever. The way they complement each other is surreal and their relationship feels natural and relatable. They’ve got each other’s backs no matter what – be it a dangerous mission or just as simple as figuring out boys and their coded brains.

Also, I liked that we are given bits and pieces of clues of “something”. I just feel like there’s more to the story of Cammie’s dad’s death and the secrecy and mystery behind it is just killing me. It is quite hard to put my finger on what’s happening exactly but I bet it’s going to be something big and something that will definitely surprise us readers. It was nice how bits of the big puzzle were thrown here and there without being obvious but I tried connecting some of the dots (or at least I think I tried) and I think it has a lot to do about Cammie and Cammie’s dad. Good thing there are more books to come after this one or else I’m gonna die (not literally of course… just in a book related death way).

And did I just almost forget to mention Zach – charming, puzzling, sweet Zach? I was in total fangirl mode from the very first time he showed up to that last moments of the book. I cannot believe he didn’t show up already in the first book and I had to suffer all those Josh moments. I don’t mean to be rude or anything but I’m just not a huge Josh fan. But enough about him, we’re talking about Zach here. ZACH. Sheesh, you gotta read the book now or else I’ll never stop fangirl-ing over him and my review would go on and on and on about how I’m totally in love with Zachary Goode.

"Besides," Zach said as he smiled and wiped sweat from his upper lip with the back of his hand, "I thought you liked your interludes secret and mysterious. Your boyfriends private."
"We weren't having an interlude. And you are not my boyfriend."

"Yeah." He hit the bag harder. "I noticed."

Zach is such an enigma and I honestly had conflicting feelings about him on the first few pages. Cammie did too. Considering what she had to go through on her first boy trouble, she tried to keep Zach at an arm’s length and tried to decode the mix signals he seem to be sending off.

Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy is short, sweet, adorably fun and exciting. Again, I felt it to be too short for my taste but knowing that there are more books to come after this one, made it somewhat okay. Must-read!
