ARC Review: BENEATH BLACK SAILS (Beneath Black Sails #1) by Clare Sager

BENEATH BLACK SAILS (Beneath Black Sails #1)
by Clare Sager
Date Published: March 30, 2020; Independently published

From Goodreads:
Sometimes it takes a pirate to catch a pirate.

With weather magic on her side, Lady Vice is the bane of the high seas, but she isn’t captain of her own ship. Yet. If she can persuade her captain to give her a command, she’ll be in charge of her own fate.

To pay off his family’s debts, Knigh Blackwood hunts pirates for the Royal Navy. And he’s damn good at it. When the bounty on Lady Vice increases, he’s determined to make her face justice, even if that means using unorthodox methods.

Forced to work together, neither can deny their mutual attraction. As they face battles at sea and schemes aboard their ship, they discover hints about a long-lost treasure that could be the answer to both their problems.

But treasure isn’t the only thing buried. Secrets best forgotten lie in wait that could blast them apart. And the closer Vice and Knigh grow, the greater the threat – to her freedom and to his family. Because for one to succeed, the other must fail.

If you love cunning heroes, feisty heroines, and enemies to lovers romance, you’ll love this new adult fantasy series that’s perfect for fans of Sarah J Maas and Miranda Honfleur.

Rating: 4 of 5 stars

Beneath Black Sails is one of my best reads of 2021 that I did not expect. Suffice it to say, I was pleasantly surprised!

I've never read a Clare Sager book before so I honestly had no idea what to expect. Not to mention the book wasn't really on my radar. (Thankful for BOMM Tours for remedying that!) But I was definitely intrigued when I first saw it. And since I also have a certain weakness for pirates and romantic fantasy adventures, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to read BSS. And I'm so glad I did!

Where do I start?

I love, love, love Vice! (I was quite uncomfortable with her name at first but I got over it quickly.) I love her loyalty, her strength and her heart. She has a certain charm that you just can't help but fall for. She's both gentle and ruthless. She's soft for a cat named Barnacles. (I know, it's adorable!) And I love her love for books! The chemistry she had with Knigh? Freakin' EPIC. Heck yes I was swooning. Their love seemed doomed from the very start but I'm still holding out hope. I just want these two to get their HEA and spend the rest of their lives out at sea! Lol.

Beneath Black Sails took me on a wild ride! Clare Sager's writing was exciting and addictive. I never wanted the book to end! (Good thing I have book two already waiting on my Kindle!)

If you're into pirates, swoony romance, seafaring adventures and the enemies to lovers (to enemies) trope, you wouldn't want to miss this!

I received an ARC to read and review.
