From Goodreads:
Captivating and action-packed, From Blood and Ash is a sexy, addictive, and unexpected fantasy perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Laura Thalassa.
A Maiden…
Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.
A Duty…
The entire kingdom’s future rests on Poppy’s shoulders, something she’s not even quite sure she wants for herself. Because a Maiden has a heart. And a soul. And longing. And when Hawke, a golden-eyed guard honor bound to ensure her Ascension, enters her life, destiny and duty become tangled with desire and need. He incites her anger, makes her question everything she believes in, and tempts her with the forbidden.
A Kingdom…
Forsaken by the gods and feared by mortals, a fallen kingdom is rising once more, determined to take back what they believe is theirs through violence and vengeance. And as the shadow of those cursed draws closer, the line between what is forbidden and what is right becomes blurred. Poppy is not only on the verge of losing her heart and being found unworthy by the gods, but also her life when every blood-soaked thread that holds her world together begins to unravel.

It has been so long since I read a JLA book and I think I forgot what it was like. But I should have known. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN. I would end up loving this one.
From Blood and Ash was could-not-put-it-down exciting, action-packed and swoony. Oh my, definitely swoony. I had no idea what I was in for. But oh my gods, I love every bit of this wonderful, thrilling, romantic fantasy. Finished this in one sitting. I was up until 2 AM and I have no regrets. None.
JLA's writing is still incredible. I don't know why but I have not read any of her books for quite a while. (Rest assured that will be rectified once I finish writing this.) Poppy was such a reckless, badass, snarky heroine. Hawke was- He's- Meet my newest book boyfriend. Guys, I am IN LOVE. The chemistry. The banter. The sexy times. Give me more Poppy x Hawke.
The story took quite a lot of turns. Some of them I guessed, some I did not see coming. But overall I was kept on the edge of my seat.
I am beyond ecstatic and in love with this one. How do I get my hands on the sequel?!
“You have an over-inflated sense of involvement in my life if you really think that.”
“I think I have a good grasp on just how much of a role I play in your life.”
“Doubtful,” I parroted back.
“I do wonder if you actually believe half the lies you tell.”
Tawny’s gaze snapped back and forth between us.
“I am not lying, thank you very much.”
He smiled, showing off the dimple in his right cheek. “Whatever you need to tell yourself, Princess.”
“Don’t call me that!” I stomped my foot.
Hawke lifted an eyebrow. “Did that make you feel good?”
“Yes! Because the only other option is to kick you.”
“So violent,” he chuckled.
